ABOUT THE KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
James Keirstead, President of Levven
James is responsible for managing the vision and growth of Levven Electronics, developing and executing long-term corporate strategies, and building relationships with partners, stakeholders and investors. Levven has a vision of making intelligent buildings available to everyone. Focused on delivering technology and products to advantage new construction, Levven’s promise is mobile device access and control of building infrastructure that lowers building costs, speeding construction and conserving building materials.
He is a life-long entrepreneur with a commitment to innovation, excellence and enhancing people’s lives. Prior to founding Levven, James and his partners founded Blue Falls Manufacturing, maker’s of Arctic Spas and expanded it’s footprint to over 30 countries. James is an active member and contributor to several entrepreneur organizations including Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO Edmonton), A100, Alberta Women Entrepreneurs, and Rainforest Alberta. When he isn’t focused on the business, you can find him with his family in Edmonton.
Gail Powley, President of Technology Alberta
Gail Powley, P.Eng, is currently the President of Technology Alberta. She also serves as the Steering Committee of Rainforest Alberta – Edmonton (focusing on building the next Silicon Valley), a Leader of INC Alberta (the Innovation Network Collabortive of Alberta), an Alternate Warden of Camp 6 (who conduct the Engineers Iron Ring Ceremony), a Member of the UofA Alumni Association, a President of her Community League – Windsor Park and was the Vice-Chair of WISEST, at the time that WISER was founded.
Prior to Gail taking on these Community Roles, her technical career spanned over 30 years as a process control engineer to executive for companies of all sizes – including Procter & Gamble, Treiber Controls (Aspen Technology), Matrikon (Honeywell), ATCO, the Alberta Research Council, University of Alberta, and Willowglen Systems. Recognizing the value of supporting innovation and innovative people, she has volunteered with organizations such as the CHOA (Canadian Heavy Oil Assn) as President, MentorUP Alberta (Co-Founder), BESTT (Bridge for Engineering, Science, and Technology Talent (Co-founder)), AWSN (Alberta Women’s Science Network (Director)) and Women in APEGA (Chair). Gail is married, and her husband Ron Unrau (PhD in Computer Engineering) works with Apple R&D and they have 3 children who are currently attending University
